Horseshoe Tossing

Throw a horseshoe at the stake.

This is a game you can play in the back garden or on the beach and is simplicity itself. There are just 6 component parts, 4 horseshoes and 2 steel stakes hammered into the ground. And the rules…..? Just land your horseshoe around the stake or score with the nearest shoe to it.

What's included

Each set consists of 4 full-sizes pitching shoes each weighing 1kg – 2 black, 2 silver. They are styled in the authentic manner for this age-old American sport and are suitably robust.

Throw a ring at a board.

Throwing hoops at spikes or hooks on a wall is a pastime as old as the hills. Certainly there is evidence that it was around in Britain in Roman times but more recently an American version has been attributed to Ernest Hemingway. Many people now refer to it as Muckers !
Our set consists of a nicely varnished pine board with 13 hooks and 12 rubber hoops – red and black. Simply toss the hoops and add up your score. This a fun game you can play indoors or out and is particularly suitable for children to sharpen up their mental arithmetic.

What's included

Each set consists of a 300mm diameter x 15mm thick varnished pine board weighing 70kg plus 6 red and 6 black rubber rings.

Play Horseshoe Pitching Today

Sometimes it is the easy uncomplicated stuff that really hits the right note. Who would have though throwing a horseshoe at the metal spike in the ground could be such fun. Yet the Americans have been getting great entertainment out of it for generations.

How to play Horseshoe Pitching

Drive the stake into the ground slightly tilted towards the thrower. If you have the space it’s better to create a sand pit around 3ft wide x 4ft deep with some form of barrier to the sides and rear. The shoes will stop more quickly if they land in sand.

The official throwing distance is 40ft but we recommend starting closer than this to begin with. If you can’t regularly land the shoe with 3ft of the stake you are standing too far away and this may not be safe.

  • Scoring is as follows:

Closest shoe to the stake (within 6”)

Two shoes closer than the opponents

One ringer ( a shoe round the stake)

    Two ringers

One ringer the next closest shoe of the same player

If each player scores a ringer the next nearest shoe

  • Points

    scores 1pt

    scores 2pts

    scores 3pts

    scores 6pts

    scores 4pts

    scores 1pt

A shoe must be within 6 inches of the stake to score The player winning and end throws first next time. If an end is tied the start alternates to the other player. Play to 40 points (officially) or fewer if you choose, or you could play a pre-agreed number of ends. For the full rules see the leaflet enclosed with this set or down load here.
